RA60H1317M 146.5MHz PA

Post by G4MJW » Wed Jul 19, 2023 5:45 pm

Does anyone know what the difference is between the RA60H1317M and the RD60W1317M? I'm making a PA for my Portsdown and found the latter one available from various sellers on Aliexpress for just over a tenner! The only difference I can see visually is there is no cover over the PCB.

Never buy an RF module from Ali-Express unless you can afford to lose the investment. £10 isn't a lot to lose. It might be OK.

The latter does not appear to exist, so it is either a typo or perhaps a special run for someone that was not available for sale.

I assume you mean this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004682856424.html

Hello Mike and Steve . . . Yes that's them Mike. I couldn't find any other info anywhere. The genuine Mitsubishi RA version produces up to 60 Watts (non DATV 8) on 12V, where as the chinky cheapy version only 30 Watts output on 12V and 60 Watts requires 24 Volts!

I've purchased other items from Enigma before and may well end up getting a Mitsubishi one from them.

Thanks for the info

I've bought a couple of the dodgy ones from Aliexpress, can find anyone that's disected them yet
They are the UHF 60W 24V knock offs with so called "Freescale" devices, 330-520mhz centre 425mhz
Will test them on the weekend if I get a chance and report the findings

Need more drive than a Mitshubshi Module and lower gain (30db)
Seems about right for two 24V stages, 60W looks a bit optimistic for the size of second device
Once the bias is tickled up into a more linear zone, it might sing like a bird

If I can get a few watts of clean DVB-S it's not bad for the roughly $25AUD each
All 7 feedbacks give 5 stars......What could go wrong?
Now if they would only release a 23cm version

Too smoke or not to smoke that is the question Roger VK5YYY

A 24V supply is necessarily not a bad thing. I can get 5W out of the 2m 60W unit with acceptable shoulders on 2m. You can get a lot more if you let the shoulders rise, but they really need to be -50 dB on 2m.

Did tests on the UHF RD60W3352F version, tests done at 445.5mhz
It does have 30ishdb gain, swept at 0db in, trace below with 30db attenuator IE 0db Ref is 1Watt

DVB-T 7mhz like we use in VK, don't even bother, got about 250mW before it took off (bad oscilation)
With Portsdown/Pluto got around 2W before it took off

Needs an 3/6db pad on the input, Mitsubishi Modules have a pad built in
Recomended drive of 4.3V seemed about right current peaked around 0.8A @24V, stayed cool on a nice heatsink

Summary: a quarter of the cost of a Mitsubishi: you get about a quarter of the performance
Likely the VHF module will have a bit more gain, the only difference between VHF and UHF unit is the positioning of some matching caps

Mitsubishi have done way more R and D, the knock off radiates RF too, no nice metal box, that would really set it off
The real thing is very linear and harmonics are small, the knock off had major harmonics
My score 4 out of 10 = give it to someone you don't like once you've had a play Roger VK5YYY
