IPTS in no longer working on Porstdown 2020

Two Portsdown 2020 systems have been tried with IPTS in on transmit and IPTS monitor.

Neither work; has the feature been disabled? The Wiki suggests that it should still work.

Hi Clive

It is still working - I've just tested it on both a Portsdown 2020 with a 3.5 inch screen and one with a 7 inch screen (fed from a Portsdown 4).

The IPTS monitor uses OMXPlayer (not VLC, which is used in the Portsdown 4), and is very fussy. The capabilities:
  • It will display an MPEG-2 TS, with or without an audio channel
  • It will display an H264 TS, but only if there is an audio channel. Note that Test Card transmitted from Portsdown does not have an audio channel.
  • It will not display H264 if encoded by an SR Systems encoder (I have yet to find what the issue is with the SR Systems encoders)
  • It will not display H265
IPTS Transmit is also fussy:
  • It will only transmit MPEG-2 if there is an audio channel
  • It will only transmit H264 if there is an audio channel
  • I'm unable to test SR Systems encoder or H265, but they might work
Hope that helps

Dave

Hi Dave

Thanks for the info. I've now succeeded with some excellent results at symbol rates from 500 to 2000kS/s using an H264 stream generated from FreeStreamCoder v2.79 and OBS Studio. 250 & 333kS/s work too, with reasonable results.

Using IPTS with the Portsdown 2020 is not mentioned in the Wiki section on 'Tested modes of operation using the Filter-Modulator board' so I've added what I found to work.

Hi Clive

Pleased that it is working for you.

And thanks for updating the Wiki - I wish more people would!
