Problems with Langstone reception.

Post by OE8PCK » Thu Jan 12, 2023 7:51 am

Hi there, I am having several problems with using Langstone after switching from Portsdown4.

The pluto does not seem to be working as it should on RX when using Langstone. i.e. there is no reception of a signal no matter how strong it is transmitted. The pluto does need some time to settle down when I switch to Langstone and it still does not conect right away although I have now incorperated the correction with a zener diode in the power line to the Pluto. i am really at an end, having checked al the voltages to be correct, one clue might be that if I remove the usb connection to the Mini Tuione the Pluto appears to conect quicker.
How would you recomend I go about trouble shooting, I am not very good at such things.

By Zener diode I assume you mean a schottky diode which should only drop 0.25-0.3 Volts.
If its the right diode is it connected the correct way round?

Are you seeing the waterfall display?. If you are then the Pluto must be working.
What frequency are you trying to receive? If it is below 325Mhz or above 3.8GHz then have you done the frequency extension mod to the Pluto?

Thank you for the answers, I am not sure that I have done the frequency upgrade. I will see if I can receive a higher frequency than 145.500 mhz.
This is the probable answer. The Schottky diode is correct because I see the waterfall. The Pluto is working.

Yes, if you are seeing the waterfall then the pluto must be working and outputting samples.
The Langstone program assumes the frequency extension mod has been done. If it has not then it won't work correctly outside the default range.

Details of the frequency extension mod can be found here.
