Portsdown 4 Update with Customisable Test Cards
Portsdown 4 Update with Customisable Test Cards
I have recently released a Portsdown 4 update (202110300) that introduces the capability to select one of up to 12 Test Cards (including 7 that are user-customisable) for transmission. These are selected from a new Menu accessed from Menu 3. Full details are on the Wiki: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Portsdown_Test_Cards
Thanks to the loan of a camera from Tony G0AZQ I have also introduced full support for the Logitech C930e WebCam.
The bug preventing the use of alternative audio sources when using a webcam with a Pluto has also been fixed.
Please report any new bugs here.

I have select the easy cap sound source but no way. with mpeg2 dual beep, in h264 no sound at all.
Output Lime Mini.

Re: Portsdown 4 Update with Customisable Test Cards
Good morning,
First of all, i tried to make a brand new install on sd card using wiki, the raspberry shows batc portsdown wallpaper instead of the usual command screen.
I dont now if there is something missing but seems to be. Does I install for the screen 7inch after fresh install ?
After, i clone a working sd card of F5JDI, and put it in rpi4. It works. Check update, put Last version and tried in dvbs2 mpeg2 sr500 on 437mhz with testcard. All is ok. Now i choose, video from easycap, and sound from easycap. Video is ok, sound still coming from beep, not from easycap.
I change to h264, video ok, no sound anymore from beep, but no one from easycap.
Any idea ?
Best 73,
Pierre ON8GE

Re: Portsdown 4 Update with Customisable Test Cards
Found the problem...
in scripts av2.sh, you have
USBOUT_AUDIO_DEV="$(aplay -l 2> /dev/null | grep 'USB Audio Device' | cut -c6-6)"
But my dongle seems to be USB PnP Sound Device, there is also a 3D Sound version with the CMEDIA...
Then the command need to be
USBOUT_AUDIO_DEV="$(aplay -l 2> /dev/null | grep 'USB PnP Sound Device' | cut -c6-6)"
to have the "1" returned.
Maybe add this version in the scripts ?

The Portsdown is designed to work with the recommended hardware. I simply do not have time to support non-recommended hardware. You have identified one file where the change would need to be made; in fact it would need changing in about 10 files. The correct audio dongle was clearly specified in CQ-TV 271 and they cost less than 5 Euros each: The same principle applies to the Ryde receiver and the Langstone transceiver: ONLY USE THE RECOMMENDED HARDWARE!
Sorry to be blunt, but there are only so many hours in the day!

Re: Portsdown 4 Update with Customisable Test Cards
Hello Dave,
Of course I understand your point of view. I just ordered the dedicated sound card. Now will wait for it.
During testing, I confirm the Logitech 930 ok sound and video without problem.
For Pi cam, there is a big delay between video and sound (4sec) in H264.
More is the FEC, it will minimize the case...
For the rest, I am testing but it is fine at this time.
Good work and thanks for it.
