Portsdown 4 Signal Generator Update

Post by G8GKQ » Wed May 19, 2021 5:22 pm

I have just published an update for the Portsdown 4 which adds the capability to control a Nort Microwave Synthesized Local Oscillator (SLO) from the Signal Generator. The Nort SLO is described here on the Microwave Group Wiki https://wiki.microwavers.org.uk/Nort_SLO.

These small 11/12 GHz sources have been sold at Friedrichshafen at reasonable prices, and are ideal as signal sources for 24, 47 or 76 GHz local oscillators. They use an ADF4153 synthesizer controlling a separate VCO; the VCO output is multiplied by 4 and amplified for about +14 dBm output at 12 GHz.

I have also added the capbility to control an ADF4153 synthesizer at fundamental. Neither of the control loops are optimised for phase noise, but this arrangement can provide a useful test signal.

Pin connections: SPI Clock 29, SPI Data 31 and SPI Latch Enable 8. These are the same pins as are allocated for control of an ADF5355 or an Elcom source from the signal generator.

There is no point in updating your Portsdown 4 with this update unless you want this specific capability.
