Hello,

What is the best option for video ?

Is it the Logitech Pro C920 Webcam or a Pi Camera, such as the HQ one, even though it does not have audio and would require the use of a USB audio dongle.

Just getting back after many months, so looking for the best compatable option to use. I note that many months ago the Pi Camera was the only option that worked on a wide range of SR's and FEC's.

I see from another post that the C920 no longer has a H264 on board encoder - is that important ?

Hi Nick,

If you use the usb video converter from the BATC shop then you can use the video and audio output from a camcorder which you may already have. The sound will be in stereo too probably. If you use a laptop computer with vMix or OBS then you might need a cheap HDMI to composite video converter but that could give you camera, audio and the possibility to play prerecorded videos (testcards etc.)

You can always buy a PiCam or webcam next.

Sorry, I missed this post last weekend as I was "off-the-grid".

The most compatible camera for Portsdown is a Pi Cam (although you need to be careful with lead lengths with the HQ version). The C920 works reasonably well with a LimeSDR at low SRs, but less well with the Portsdown F-M board at high SRs.

I'm not sure about the performance of the new C920s without the H264 encoder as I only have an older, more capable, one to test with.

Unfortunately the EasyCap USB video capture devices that Martin mentions are out of stock in the shop - I have had trouble sourcing quantities of the correct model at reasonable prices.
