New Portsdown 4 Software Release 202008230
Re: New Portsdown 4 Software Release 202008230
Hi Dave,
Your answers masks sense and I'm probably rushing the system as its very much a build in progress so I'm looking for operations rather than using the radio. Waiting before switching between Portsdown and Langstone gives no issues, lesson learned.
So far I have, Pi4 4Gb, official 7" screen, Pluto, C920, usb sound dongle (identified as USB PnP Sound Device), USB deconstructed mouse and a ptt relay switched from pin 40 via a 2N7000. Has been tested with Minitiouner which works well but I must add a volume control.
73 Dave.

...are you sure I can't use a pair of 813's?...

Re: New Portsdown 4 Software Release 202008230
Thanks Dave, that covers my issue. I externally enabled the amp, carrier comes up when Pluto has served its 7 second delay and when TX is dropped on Portsdown, Pluto carries on for 20 or so seconds. If I THEN TX again, without changing sources, all is fine.
Does the Pluto on-board relay solution reflect these longer times? I've got the parts but not built it yet.
Depending on my usage (home or/P) it might just be easier to have an external AMP enable that I learn to use as required.
'Problem solved' - Thanks for the reminder...

Re: New Portsdown 4 Software Release 202008230
Hi
I am building a Portsdown 4 system. Everything boots up and works across the shack.
Then I looked through the menus to see if I need to update any software.
I opened the WiFi menu to set it up, it just displays WiFi Configuration Menu (36), at the
top of the screen and Exit on the bottom right of the screen. Nothing else appears.
Software version is 202010260
IP: Not connected
Help! I’m hopeless with computers/software, what have I missed?
Regards John

You have missed out on many things by not learning about computers. interesting things, grey hairs, frustration, reward. I'd recommend learning the basics - but in this case, WiFi setup is not yet supported so you need to connect it via an ethernet cable. Once connected via a cable you can ssh into it and make adjustments to allow WiFi to work.

If you create a text file on the SD card on a PC then enter the following text, changing the network name and password to your network name and password.
network={
ssid="network name"
psk="Password"
}
Then save it and rename it to wpa_supplicant.conf. Now insert back into the Portsdown and reboot it should now have WiFi enabled

network={
ssid="NETWORK_NAME"

Hi
Menu 36 not working so use the code below for wifi on Portsdown 4:
Create a new file in the boot sector of the sdcard
Insert the text below changing for your own wifi settings
country=UK # Your 2-digit country code
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
network={
ssid="NETWORK_NAME"
psk="PASSWORD"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
}
Rename file to wpa_supplicant.conf
reboot
Worked for me!
Thanks

Re: New Portsdown 4 Software Release 202008230
you can also use
https://www.pistar.uk/wifi_builder.php to create the file. its not designed for portsdown but designed for rasp PI
ive used this on my portsdown 2020 and 2019
just put in you ssid and pass. it then download to you the file you need to put in to the root
