Portsdown Buster 202003301 LimeSDR USB Support

Post by G8GKQ » Mon Apr 06, 2020 8:13 pm

I have just released Portsdown Buster Version 202003301 which adds support for the LimeSDR USB as an output device. There is more information on this capability on the BATC Wiki. https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Portsdown_2020_LimeSDR_USB

Note that the LimeDVB software is not available for the LimeSDR USB (or the LimeNET Micro).

The release also reduces the signal delay for DVB-S transmissions when using the LimeDVB output mode on the LimeSDR Mini (from around 25 seconds to about 6 seconds).

Thanks to M1GEO for the loan of the LimeUSB used in testing and to M0PIT for reporting the excessive delay with DVB-S.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for update, which i performed a few days back but didnt test until last night 8th June, as I was awaiting Gary M1EGI to be on air to try the Minitiouner + Portsdown receiver.
I just happened to have my beam pointing at GB3EY (45 miles away) so Gary suggested I entered its parameters and see if I could see it first.
just 1 second after tapping the VLC button. Bang it was displayed on screen. Superb, however EY is very marginal here and I can only receive it with Kuhne preamp then via a filter. It locks and decodes very quickly but then stutters and eventually freezes. OK no problem, it is a good start. On a satellite receiver its a full lock & with Minitiouner / pc combination also. No freezing.
Next I turned my beam onto Gary M1EGI and he transmitted on 1255. SR 333. again only 1/2 a second to get parameters and full decode. A bit pixely , as would be expected. We did tests at 1k sr with smooth clear video being received from his webcam and sound. Super dooper. So excellent results.
I did notice one of the pages from EY was now diplaying when I came out of and into certain menu's. Im unsure if I had accidentally done a screen grab.
This morning on boot up. Its wasnt doing that. I took a look in "snap" menu and It does appear in their , momentarily when i press SNAP, but only for a brief moment. I does'nt display permanent when SNAP button is pressed. Anyway I thought i would try to look in there and delete anything I found, so I looked at wiki here >>https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Portsdown_2020 ... hancements
I saw and did the download of WinSCP and installed it. Im bamboozled very easly with PC software, so tried to read the instructions on how to use it it. That didn't help. Say no more !
Might I suggest a little wiki explaining how to use WinSCP for deleting said snapshots or just basic , how to "log-in to the RPi using WinSCP" as I couldnt even perform that function. Sorry.

In the meantime, if anyone wants a view of me using said receive combination or to see the said previous frozen image from EY look here >>

Thanks for all your hard work. It just gets better & better.
Ken.
