LongMynd + Portsdown

Post by dc1op » Thu Mar 26, 2020 9:52 am

Now, after the beacon's frequency and SR are changed it would be desirable to also match the "MER" button in LongMynd/Portsdown to the new data.
Is it foreseen to issue an instruction how to do that or do we have to wait for an system update? ( I find the "MER" button very handsome to quickly check the rxing)

Hi

Yes - I'm working on it, and it will be a system update.

Moved to buster yesterday.

I modified to 1500 in the settings, decoding fine.
However, the display shows lock etc of 1500, 1000 and 333ks signals, but doesnt show the video anylonger?

Henk

Edit: it does show, but for very strong signals only

The signal in your photo is encoded as H265. Portsdown can't decode it. You can send it via VLC to a PC.

Hi Dave,

was the beacon MER function updated with the latest software build? Trying to squeeze the last dB out of the new dish on QO-100 and getting nothing.

Hi Malcolm

Yes it was. Do you have the correct LNB offset set?

Hi Dave,

I've found the problem and as suspected it was caused by a " senior moment"...hi.

I've been using the MT Pro2 and the LNB power is software controlled. Hence, no power to the LNB when using LongMynd . I'll try again with another MT later.

Stay safe

I was looking at the Longmynd software to see how to include output voltage setting and I noticed that the feature was added a month ago to the Longmynd version on github. I did an update on Portsdown, but it still uses a previous version of Longmynd.

See the attached file for a quickish workaround to get the MT Pro outputting 18v, if you know your way around Linux. The forum won't accept a .txt file as an upload and it doesn't format very well here, so it's an image file. Save, view and expand for the best effect.

I can't try transmitting at the moment to see if anything else has been affected, but I think it's unlikely.

Hi Brian

Thanks for looking at this. I have been working on other aspects of the project and had missed this update. I'll look pulling it into the next release.

You can get to the command prompt simply be selecting "Shutdown" and then "Exit to Linux" on the console menu after logging into the RPi. Git is installed on all Portsdown systems, so that step is not required. I can confirm that these changes (if done correctly) will not affect the transmitter side of things. Instead of rebooting after making the changes, simply type "gui" and the touchscreen will restart.

Thanks Dave. I always forget how to stop and start it.
