I do not see a posting to my problem so I think this is the closest spot. Is there any way to get better quality video into the Portsdown than with the easycap? I find the video quality rather poor compared to the on board test pattern which is very good. Many thanks, Leon ZS1MM

The simplest way to get good video quality from a Portsdown is to use a Raspberry Pi Camera. Quality from the EasyCap is limited by the EasyCap itself.

A C920 webcam could be good, but there are currently some compatibility problems between it and a LimeSDR.

Thanks Dave. The quality of the test pattern is very good. I was hoping to be able to transfer a digital file from a computer or any other device via the usb port. I have several high end cameras with HDMI output as well . I was hoping to be able to edit a piece of the video and send it to the Portsdown so that it can be transmitted in the same quality as the test pattern. A Pi Cam is a bit basic for me.

What you propose is possible, but you have to encode the video (into H264 or H265) externally and then send it to the Portsdown by UDP. One example is here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Feeding_Video_ ... _from_vMix. Another method here:

John G7JTT describes another method in CQ-TV 266, based on this forum discussion viewtopic.php?t=6402&p=21487#p21487.

There is no good quality device for capturing video directly and inputting to Portsdown by USB - all the practical solutions involve using the network interface with some form of external capture and encoding. But there are plenty of people on QO-100 doing just that.
