Dymco V8 Satfinder?

Post by 2i0jmt » Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:21 pm

Hi Folks

I have a Dymco V8 Satfinder. I was just wondering if anyone had any luck decoding their Portsdown signal from it? The unit shows high signal strength and quality, but when search my "transponder", no programs are found.

My cheap ebay satellite box, as well as my Sony TV can tune into my Portsdown (with varying levels of stability, but picture and audio does come through). I'm using 1000ks and have tried with 1/2 and 3/4.

Thanks

Jonny

On your V8

1) Menu, satellite installation, red button to add sat.
2) OK, key sat name, yellow to save, yellow to confirm
3) right arrow to set LNB - suggest you set lnb freq to 10000, set LNB power to either V or H (otherwise you will find 2 signals from your TX, one for each polarity.
4)Blue to scan, yes to save
5) Put your Portsdown on TX, Make sure it's DVB-S and MPEG2 encoding.set SR 1000 or more and on testcard or video in etc.
6) Make sure V8 is set for your new named satellite, FTA only, scan TV channel,Blind scan, put cursor on search and press OK to start search.
7) Grab a beer, the scan will take a while so you may as well do something useful.
8) If your portsdown signal is too strong you may find more than one signal found.
9) press OK to save
10 Watch your picture on your V8 and grab another beer.

The frequency shown will be 11249 for 1249 if you set LNB to 10000 so it will make tuning a little easier.

Note, grabbing a beer is optional. Other refreshments are available.

the dymco is a clone of a clone the sort of original is here
https://www.freesat.cn/forum/
but the software for it will not work in the gtmedia clone
I did have the same as you till i dropped it.
I ended up getting the bravebox version and i found this software will read and edit the backup files
https://www.setedit.de/SetEdit.php?spr= ... ce=Openbox
it might work for yours

try plug in a usb stick and back up files on satfinder
back up mode is user DB+SystemData
it then makes a file on usb called
finder_dbssdata.bin

now try and open it in SetEditopenboxV8 on pc

when up use usb upgrade mode choose "user DB"

I would advise do not try and update firmware for it as many have bricked their devices as there are a lot of variants around all look the same but firmware is different

Hi Dave

I have been doing (and also redid) your steps but I simply get No Program Found :( It's all working fine with my cheap ebay Sat Box, and also MiniTiouner. Further, the dymco is working with regular satellite when plugged into my lnb+dish.

For ref, my portsdown in tx is this: 2I0JMT: CARDMPEG-2 -> LIMEMINI 1249.0 MHz 1000 KS, DVB-S, FEC 3/4

I wonder what else I'm doing wrong....

Incidentally, I simply have this aerial plugged directly into the f-socket: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1

Was just wondering if my dymco won't pull channels if it isn't connected to a proper LNB?

Thanks

Jonny

I also tried to backup my files, but plugging in a freshly formatted 16GB drive (FAT32) into it, the USB Backup option is still greyed out in the menu...
