HDMI board from Auvidea
HDMI board from Auvidea
Dave,
To connect HDMI source (HD or SD), we use an interface from Auvidea BA101 connected instead the raspberry camera port (CS2).
For the picture we have no problem, but we can't use the audio embbeded in the video. On the board there is an output audio connector (I2S protocol)
ready to connect on the master GPIO on raspberry.
Question: is it possible (in the futur) to ugrade the softawre to have this connection and audio available ?

Re: HDMI board from Auvidea
Hi Patrice
There are no plans for this, although if you could provide the code to listen for the I2S audio on GPIO pins and provide an input to the arecord process and/or ffmpeg we could try to integrate it.
It might be easier to use an external I2S to analogue decoder and feed the output to a USB audio dongle.
Do you get the full HDMI frame transmitted using this device, or just a tile from the centre of the picture?

Re: HDMI board from Auvidea
Hi Dave,
I do some tests with the interface, it works, but not very well.
For the video flow is good, the problem is with the size of the picture, for example if I broadcast a 16/9 picture, on the reciver I reiceve more and less a 20/12 picture .
On the porsdown software when you choice PICAM, you can not choice 16/9, 720p, or 1080p.

Re: HDMI board from Auvidea
I use one like this to go from HDMI to composite video and sound.

or one of these

or similar items. They are cheap but seem to work well most of the time.

Re: HDMI board from Auvidea
Would it not be better to use an external HDMI to transport stream encoder and feed the signal over the network into the Portsdown? I personally have not used this with the Portsdown, but with the Hides DVB-T transmitters and it worked very well (and made the installation at a repeater site easier). The downside is the little extra delay that is introduced by adding an extra component and a network connection which might even go through routers/switches etc. But then, digital TV isn't really live television anyway...

Re: HDMI board from Auvidea
Has anyone seen or used one of these
Looks like a Auvidea knockoff that's much cheaper
(And you always get what you pay for)
Claims to do up to 1080p 25fsp
eBay item number:202742746378
I think functionally the zero's csi slot is the same as the pi 3 but is a little smaller

Re: HDMI board from Auvidea
Hi Folks
I can confirm this board does work
It appears to be a knock off or at least similar to the Auvidea
No sound (like the Auvidea) and the resolution has to be correct
Will need a decent bit rate to support the resolution
So guess that rules it out for reduced bandwidth, unless it could be scaled
Thanks to VK5BD for persevering with it
