This is the solder station I use https://www.pcb-soldering.co.uk/aoyue-9 ... ation.html
From the same manufacturer hoof bits (concave solder well) 0.5mm up to 1.5mm.
0.3mm solder, flux pen, 1.5mm braid.

Chipquik is great for component removal.
Like others I don't pre-solder pads. Anti-static tweezers will hold components while soldering.

Thanks, clearly all sort of pockets needed to expand my capability then. I have a roll of multicore SMART SN62 silver loaded which is 0.46mm. Based on current consumption rate it will outlast me. Short term I have ordered a cheap Chinese hot air unit and some solder paste to have a go with. 'Up till now' (when I damaged a component) I've always managed with my Weller and various solders/flux. The flux pen in particular helps although it seems to de-tin the iron plated bits, necessitating regular visits to my little pot of multicore 'iron bit re-tinning compound' which I have had for a long time now, 16+ years.
Needs must and all that....
