USB Audio

Post by M1ASR » Wed Mar 14, 2018 3:04 pm

I am at the stage of sorting out the best audio device for my Portsdown. I’ve tried audio via the easycap and that’s not too bad. I’m trying a usb sound dongle, but the the mic volume is very low. Also wondering about usb mics, I have one but that doesn’t seem to work. It would be good to hear about the experiences of others?

You might want to try your USB Sound Dongle on a Windows PC and check the level of your Mic there. A good computer mic plugged into a USB sound dongle seems to achieve the same level as the EasyCap on all the versions that I have tried.

Specialist USB mics require bespoke drivers. I looked at supporting the Samson C01UPro USB Microphone, but it would have taken about a week to sort it out!

Thanks Dave,

I can appreciate it not going down that road! I am getting good results using a pi camera and a cheap mic with preamp. Since I posted, I tried a couple of old video cameras, which all seem good. I found some old cctv cameras, from when was on 23cm analogue about 10 years ago and they all work great through a quad processor.

The options are very flexible with the pi-cam and easycap.

I am finishing the lo filter board today. I may be asking advise on DATV PA's next!

Thanks again

Graham
