RPi3 extension Lead

Post by gordon » Mon Feb 19, 2018 6:56 pm

Hi, I am just at the point of deciding how best to mount the Portsdown bits in a suitable housing. I am not enthusiastic about mounting the breakout board and the Waveshare directly on the RPi output connector. Rather, I would prefer to use a short 40-way extension lead and connect the breakout board and Waveshare to this. . However, I am concerned that the extra capacitance might cause a reduction in performance.Has anyone tried this ? I would appreciate any help you might offer. Thanks, Gordon (G3ZYL)

Hi Gordon

Many of us have used an extension lead for the display, and I cannot foresee any major problems with the other connections from the breakout board. The IQ wiring is not too critical; the spi data to the ADF4351 can be upset by ringing on the (very) fast edges, but putting small (<1K) series resistors in the 3 lines can easily cure this if it occurs.
