Checked my LO boards this afternoon and was pleased to note that they have 3.3V regs fitted - well they're marked as 3.3V at least.

I've gotten to the point where I won't buy any semiconductors from China for fear of them being counterfeit or faulty.

The straw which broke the camels back were some 2SC2073 devices which were just blanks and had nothing inside the plastic encapsulation at all !

Quite a problem with counterfeit / rejects getting to the supply chain even with Farnell and the like !

Business as usual in China by the looks of things - the ADF4351 I have just received from eBay has a 5 volt regulator. Thanks for the warning - and I'll test the replacement when it arrives.

Hi Richard

Please complain and make a fuss. I did and got a 20% refund in the end. If enough customers complain, the retailers might be able to convince the supplier to take back the faulty stock.

Incidentally, the 5v regulators on my 2 boards were easy to remove and replace - I just melted the solder on all 3 terminals at once and the heatsink came away as I levered their leads up.

Nick,
which PIC are you going to use: 12F629 or 12LF1552?
you have to modify the original listings to comply with the 25 MHz oscillator.
let me know if you need help in doing it.

I'm building a Portsdown and glad I read this thread because when I checked the ADF4351 it also has the 5 v regulator. The AMS1117-3.3 isn't available from Farnell etc who only stock the Texas LM1117MP-3.3 That is similar but I have ordered three AMS1117-3.3 from a UK eBay supplier for £1.44! The Farnell LM1117MP-3.3 is only 80 p (plus £4.95 handling and postage) and might probably work. I have to contact the original eBay supplier 'industry_mall' now for a refund...

Probably worth checking the eBay AMS1117-3.3s are really what they say are before fitting them to the PCB.
