Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Recently, when testing my Portsdown into GB3ZZ I found that the Comag Rx at 'ZZ would not display my picture, even though it accepted the audio OK..... Testing with my own Comag Rx gave the same result.....
After days of headscratching (I'm already bald !), this morning I have discovered that it all boils down to having the "picture sizing" i.e. "640x480" EXACTLY the same in BOTH vMix AND in the ffmpeg.bat file which needs to be run to send vMix to the Portsdown.....
Previously I had different values in each ..... but now the Comags are as happy as Tutioune or StarSat Rxs..... Phew ...!!

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
I was looking to see how I can make mine output at 720x540 and found this thread.
Sadly it didn't help directly but I thought I ask here rather than start a new thread.
I'm trying to get the portsdown working with Vmix. It does work but the local repeater need an image size of 720x540.
Vmix has no setting for this. I was also unable to find any ffmpeg.bat file on my machine. Anyone got any clues? currently I'm stuck in 720 x 576 which works everywhere except the repeater.
Cheers,
Bob

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Hello Bob,
From your message I believe you have Vmix working with portsdwown, ie Vmix with external output, opening a batch file (possibly named something like Vmix2Rpi.bat) and then an Ethernet connection to your Portsdown project, if that is the case, the ffmpeg command is inside the batch file, you should be able to right click it and select edit.
Hope this helps,
Bevan

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Thanks Bevan,
Found hidden in there the line
-pix_fmt yuv420p -r 25 -s 768x576 -aspect 4:3 -qmin 2 -qmax 35^
I guess I can change the "-s 768x576" numbers to anything I like?
Cheers,
Bob

Hello Bob,
Anything you like within reason
keep in mind aspect ratio and try to keep to "Standard" resolutions

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Cheers Bevan,
That did work.
Sadly it broke again soon after but I think that is a different issue.
I was trying to get sound working and suddenly vision stopped. Task for another day now.

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Hello Bob,
Was Vmix still running the External Output option?

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Is was still running. It seemed to just stop when I wasn't playing with it. I thought my amp had died but it was ok.
I'm still trying to work out what has happened as I've tried it a few times since with no luck.
Portsdown works ok with Rpi camera so I know that's OK. My pc does give LOADS of errors on the batch file thing but I think that has always happened even when it was working.
Common errors are...
Past duration 0.7999995 too large
real-time buffer too full <snipped for clarity>
I'm not sure if they are relevant.
I may try it with my tuitone but I'm not sure the computer can handle them both together as I only have the one machine to use it on.

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Hello Bob,
I suspect that maybe the structure of the command has changed, when you edited the file did you accidently insert a "Carriage Return" (Enter Key) as the FFMPEG command is actually one long string. But that is just a guess from afar

Re: Using vMix/ffmpeg with Portsdown
Not that I can see Bevan.
I suspect I have changed some setting in vMix as it was working and all I played with was vMix after it was working.
I'm hopping someone local will come on line soon and can see what signal I'm putting out. The local groups on GB3HV have been very helpful in this respect in the past.
