unable to escape from the pattern mod ?

Post by F5SWB Dimitri » Sun Apr 02, 2017 1:47 pm

Hi everybody,

With the touchscreen, I'm not able to go back to the menu when I go in the pattern mode ?
Then I must log with putty to come back ....

I can decode the picture in DVBS but it's ok in H264 ?
Run on 437 , FEC 1/2, SR 1000
Any idea ...

Hi Dimitri

You should be able to get back to the touchscreen menu by touching the screen where the transmit button was (near the top left of the screen). Please confirm that you don't have an HDMI screen connected.

If you log in with putty, you can see your touches reported as x-y positions, and also the command activated when you hit a button. You can then return to the console if you want to by pressing Control and C together.

All normal output modes from Portsdown are DVB-S H264 except CAMMPEG2, which is MPEG-2.

Hope that helps

Hello Dave,

I encounter the same problem but a little bit different. In fact, I use a 5' Waveshare with HDMI and the touch by USB. After Portsdown install i loaded the correct drivers which replace various files in the modules and the Kernel as the drivers alone are not available but only compiled. Any how when I boot in touch mode this functionning perfectelly, I mean I can change any of the functions, start TX and revert when I touch the screen at the correct place. The problem remain with the pattern mode which do not accept the touch. With putty I noted that nothing else occur when I touch the screen. The only way is Ctrl-C. On the other hand, whether I restart the touch screen by the menu under Putty, the touch is again functionning but with X -Y inversed.
I know that you recommend to not use HDMI but I have already the screen and 5' is comfortable (of course in refocusing the various screens, particularly the pattern).
At least, the RX function do not start under the touch screen. :shock:
Could you help, and may be give a way to use HDMI.
Thanks 73'

Hi Bernard

Please could you post here the steps you take to install the 5" WaveShare Screen to help other users? (Even if they are very complicated)

When I see how you install it, I might be able to work out what changes are needed to support it.

Thanks

Thank Dave for your answer,

In fact regarding the drivers I used a non conventional approach. As you are certainely aware it is difficult to found the drivers alone and the manufacturer give only a package already compiled. (kernel, kernel7 and modules) For the 5' Waveshare give only an Rasbian image jessie_4.4.13v7_20160620.7z .
Of course, if you install Portsdown on this image you lose the touch command.
When I received my screen, on the CD it was a file (RPI2B_B_B+_USB_TOUCH_RES_5.0_RASPBIAN.tar.gz) which allowed to install the USB touch on any Rasbian image.
In studying this file, I noted that it installed differents modules and replaced the kernel. But this file was rather old and consequently the kernel/modules version were no longer topical.
I decided to recreate a similar file with the new Waveshare version, I installed the last image at disposal and recreate by hand the similar file in copying the kernels and the modules and add the install script copied from the previous version.
With this file in hand (exactly similar i.e tar and gz although it is not necessay :D ), I installed Portsdown according with the GitHub instructions and using the Jessie Lite dated 2016-11-25 . When done, I started my file with the sh script and the kernel/modules were duly replaced. As the date of the Jessie versions were not very far I considered that they were almost similar. Bingo, the touch was functionning as détailled in my previous message.
For your guidance, I carried out the Portsdown update without any problem but simply in modifying the update.sh and disable sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade to avoid the replacement of kernels.
The process appears complex but in fact it is not so hard and I am not a Linux specialist. The ideal situation will be to have the corrects/necessary drivers without the need to compile the kernel, but it is an other story....
I hope that this could help other OM in using a 5' screen with USB touch. :D
Thanks you help

Ok bernard, that's not the same screen sorry but I can help you...
At my side, it runs ok : HDMITouch in the menu and I can see the menu but it needs to be calibrate the touch not ok with screen menu ...
So I would like to know friends if I must install a driver to support the touchscreen function or choose another screen in the menu ?
Or how to calibrate because the screen is 800x480 !
I added this in config.txt :

max_usb_current=1
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0

any idea ?

To be continued ...
