Re: can't find IP address
Hi Ivan
Do you have any unidentified IP addresses when you scan? You could try them if you do.
If that fails, you could post a screenshot of Advanced IP Scanner here.

Re: can't find IP address
Being the “newbie” that I am to the Portsdown Project, I have managed to find three stumbling blocks while moving forward to set-up the Portsdown/RPi3/DATV-Express transmitter.
1) A “cross-over” ethernet cable will NOT work for the initial set-up steps with IP-Scanner software to find the RPi3 IP-address. Evidently the RPi3 is sitting in a DHCP mode waiting for a router to assign/provide RPi3 with an IP-address. Once DHCP was suspected, I dug out a dusty ethernet router and reconnected the RPi3…and soon I saw the BATC logo glowing on the LCD touch-screen.
2) When trying to set-up the DATV-Express configuration in the menus, it appears that the router must have internet-access turned on during that step? When I selected DATV-Express and said OK…an error message quickly zipped past on the putty software screen that perhaps said “could not access github” (or something similar to that). I enabled the RPi3 wifi…and retried and must have made progress because the LEDs on DATV-Express are now blinking nicely.
3) When I powered down RPi3 to attach the DATV-Express cable, I discovered that I had not written down the IP-address of RPi3 and when I started up putty, it did NOT suggest the previous IP-address. So I started up IP-Scanner software again…and was alarmed to no longer see the Raspberry Pi device name listed. One IP-address that was listed seemed to have about the right value from my fuzzy memory and it did work and soon the putty software was helping me finish up the configuration set-up steps. It would be more user-friendly if IP-Scanner could still list “Raspberry” or perhaps even “Portsdown” when restarted after some set-up steps had already been completed.
So I have made good progress. At the end of the first afternoon session with Portsdown, I now obtain a permanent “white screen” on the RPi3 LCD when I power up. I suspect I have to clean-up some of the putty menu settings to boot up into the Portsdown “buttons” on the LCD.

Re: can't find IP address
Ken, the Pi may be waiting for you to log in, just type "pi" and hit return type "raspberry" and hit return see if that is the case. If you are at the Pi waiting for a command you need to type in the following string /home/pi/rpidatv/scripts/menu.sh menu

Re: can't find IP address
Hi Ken
1. Yes, the RPi needs to be connected to a network with DHCP.
2. There should not be a need to be connected to the internet during DATV Express Set-up. All the files required are already loaded on the card. Old error messages are not cleared, so possibly this was from something else.
3. I have the same problem as you with IP Scanner not identifying my Raspberry Pis. Their MAC address always seems to start with B8:27 though. Advanced IP Scanner is 3rd Party software; if you know of something better we could recommend it.
Once you got everything working, all you should need to do to make the touchscreen come up when you turn on is to select System Setup, Autostart, and then down-arrow to Display_Boot, press the spacebar and then enter. After reboot, you should be able to control the RPi and DATV Express without a PC.

Re: can't find IP address
I just checked the router admin, IP was listed for each device, no need for software.

I suspect that the "name" of the scanned device in the IP-Scanner list is provided by the RPi-3 itself and the RPi-3 firmware. From my memory, it seemed after configuring the RpiDATV software the first time, the "name" for the RPi3 device was not being supplied anymore to IP-Scanner list. As you pointed out, the MAC address did not change during the configuration effort. I suspect that IP-Scanner is NOT the root-cause of the issue here...and is doing a good job?I have the same problem as you with IP Scanner not identifying my Raspberry Pis. Re: can't find IP address
Hi Guys,
I'm also having difficulty finding the IP address using Advanced IP Scanner software running on my Windows laptop.
The network connection lights on the Pi only indicate one flashing green and and one orange and only one illuminated on the network switch...any ideas??

Barry
