Touch Screen
Touch Screen
The recommended Touch Screen is the WaveShare SpotPear V3, some suppliers from China are now supplying the V4 version.
I have tested this today and it works exactly the same, no changes were required.

Re: Touch Screen
I'm just getting all the bits together for this project. I have the Pi3, breakout board and LCD screen. I'm unsure which pins should be connected to the LCD. I've been reading and reading but don't see anything about this.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Touch Screen
Hi Bob
The 26-pin socket on the base of the touchscreen fits directly on to the (lower-numbered) 26 pins on the RPi, with an extender board in between if required. There is a picture of it half way down this page on the wiki: https://wiki.batc.tv/Portsdown_hardware. So. if you are using an extension ribbon cable, it's a one-to-one connection for pins 1 - 26. Pins 27 - 40 are used for Portsdown-related functions.
The connection list is at the bottom of the page, but I have not been able to positively identify which connections are used by the touchscreen, just those that aren't.
Hope that helps

Re: Touch Screen
Thanks Dave, that's the way I have it installed but the PI never boots, I just see a white screen. I must have a bad image on the sd card. One issue I have is the windiskimager installs but I get an error that it failed. I can use it and an image is written to my SD card. I've tried with my Win7 desktop and my Win10 laptop with the same results. I do have a SD card coming from the BATC store so I'll see what happens when I give the new card a go.

Re: Touch Screen
Hi Bob
That does sound like a bad card. The disk imager should not show an error.

Re: Touch Screen
Hi Dave and Bob,
Hmmm, that's interesting I'm using a V4 WaveShare 3.2" Screen and I'm only getting a white screen too! However, I can SSH into the pi, and everything is running normally - so the SD card Image is fine! Not had a chance to explore further yet.
I assume that the screen should be on and running fine 'out of the box' with the install from the instructions? Are there any settings in the menu that need changing to get the screen running?
Slow progress here, too many other things to do!
(Including starting on the next CQ-TV!)
Cheers

Re: Touch Screen
One thing to check on the V3 is the ribbon cable on the back I had the screen working then it seemed to develop a intermittent fault. I then found the clamp that holds the cable in was not pushed home all the way. The result of refitting the cable and clamping it in correctly no more white screen ! Might be worth a check.

Re: Touch Screen
Sorry Frank, the 3.2 inch screen is not supported. It's only 320x240, and the supported 3.5 inch is 320x480.m0aeu wrote:Hi Dave and Bob,

Re: Touch Screen
Thanks for the replies, have a question. The only SD card I had available was a 64Gb class 10, I formatted it FAT is that the correct format?

Hi Bob,
You will need to follow the instructions on the wiki https://wiki.batc.tv/Portsdown_software which links to the Github page where there are full instructions on how to build your own card: https://github.com/BritishAmateurTelevisionClub/rpidatv
