EasyCap Video Capture Devices

There are a number of different sorts of EasyCap video capture devices available on eBay and Amazon. Some look identical externally, but are totally different inside.
I would like to list them here so help users of the Portsdown TX, which accepts inputs from some EasyCaps and not others.
You can uniquely identify your EasyCap by connecting it to your RPi and typing

Hi Ken
No, the analog input does not display on the screen (or the HDMI), so it might be working. Have you managed to receive any signals from the Pi? If you set it to 125KS and 437 MHz in QPSKRF (ugly) mode, you should see some pictures on a MiniTiouner with the same settings.
Not sure about your touchscreen problems at the moment....

Ah, Your reply explains everything. It might seem silly but I have nothing to receive on. I do have a satlink signal meter/ DTV receiver and several Comags Tevions etc and a spectrum analyser that covers 70cms but up to now all my ATV activities have been analogue. The Raspberry PI with Portsdown has inspired me towards digital. Also many local hams are gearing up too in the same way I am and going via the various issues and problems through lack of knowledge. We appreciate your help very much. We understand that its all new and it , plus us , will have teething problems. The amount of work you guys have put in is fantastic and im looking forward to the rest of this year. Its going to be much better when Bakeoff and Strictly are on the goggle box. We will have something else to play with.
My friend Gary M1EGI has a couple of receiving methods , so he will be bringing them down here to to some EasyCap PI testing and I'll post back here after we have done a TX RX test. Thanks again ...Ken

UPDATE
Dave,
Correction to earlier post regarding me having nothing to receive on .
I had a mini brainwave. I have an original Raspberry pi , so I thought , why not Porstdown it ?
So, I did and set it up with SDR-RTL dongle , took a bit of fiddling but it works Raspberry PI one with little RTL dongle
Raspberry P3 txing to it analogue into EasyCap , Its now proved my Easycap and my 2 dongles.
Not only that , Its proved your team work and efforts for us catcheruppers is do-able.

I'm in a similar position to G8VDP
I have a small Clip on USB Camera, it would seem that the Pi has recognised it, but does that mean it will work?
There doesn't seem to be any method of viewing or displaying the input video so having nothing to receive with (yet), I'm in the dark.

Hi Wolfie,
if you have a SDR-RTL dongle then you can receive on the same Pi that you are transmitting with. Its the only way I had to test my Portsdown.

Hi Duncan,
I gave this idea a little thought a few days back. I must admit, my thinking only lasted around a minute. Quickly coming to the conclusion that it wasn't possible. It still doesn't seem logical that the pi and software can do those 2 processes at the same time. Also trying to make it do the 2 things either via the pi screen or via putty/pc is beyond my ability without having the "secret" .
Please tell us how ?

Hi Ken,
well I just connected the easy cap dongle and fed it from my camcorder. I connected my SDR-RTL dongle to one of the other USB ports. I selected Analog, FEC 3/4, SR333, 437MHz. Then I pressed TX to start transmitting in ugly mode. I then pressed RX, which put the Portsdown into receive mode using the SDR-RTL dongle, transmitting doesn't stop at this point , so you are able to receive and view your transmitted video. It doesn't work in Pattern mode because you can't select RX once transmitting in Pattern mode has started. Initially I had a B/W picture because the escape was set to NTSC.

It does loose "lock" frequently and screen refresh is slow so its not very good a fast moving video but it will give you a good static picture so you can at least confirm that the Pi is transmitting.
