Hi Ken,
well I just connected the easy cap dongle and fed it from my camcorder. I connected my SDR-RTL dongle to one of the other USB ports. I selected Analog, FEC 3/4, SR333, 437MHz. Then I pressed TX to start transmitting in ugly mode. I then pressed RX, which put the Portsdown into receive mode using the SDR-RTL dongle, transmitting doesn't stop at this point , so you are able to receive and view your transmitted video. It doesn't work in Pattern mode because you can't select RX once transmitting in Pattern mode has started. Initially I had a B/W picture because the escape was set to NTSC.

Duncan, great , I would never have thought to do that. These revelations will help everyone.
I have tried it but get the lock light red green flipping every second and no image.
I'm going to try a different dongle see how that goes . Thanks.

I'm not getting anything just 1 second lock/unlock.

I'm wondering how Wolfie Graham is getting on with his ?

One thing is , same on my screen, its very blue even with lots of light provided. Looks like yours is too. I'm not expecting miracles at this stage.

I'll make this my last post on this thread and leave it to its purpose , that is, finding out which grabbers work.

I'm hoping to receive the Waveshare Display tomorrow to be able to run the Portsdown properly, then I should be able to do the TX/RX thing.

As some EasyCaps from eBay are not compatible with the Portsdown transmitter, the BATC Shop now stocks the Fushicai USBTV007 EasyCap video devices. Guaranteed to work well with the Portsdown transmitter.

I want to thank the BATC for making tried-and-tested EasyCAP video capture dongles available from the BATC on-line store. The VideoDVR units from Fushicai model USBTV007 really do work. I can confirm that I have heard many issues reported by DATV-Express users where internet-obtained EzCAP units they received did NOT work because the internal chips are different and they require a different driver.

I have just finished my first successful video testing with my RPi-3/Portsdown/DATV-Express in the ANALOGCAM source mode using the VideoDVR capture device and my trusty old NTSC home camera.

Along the way, I was hampered by two problems before I achieved the successful EasyCAP reception.
1) I did NOT realize that the current Portsdown encoding technology used for the ANALOGAM mode is H.264. I just assumed it was MPEG-2 encoding. Thanks to Dave G8GKQ for correcting my assumption.
2) I had a corrupted H.264.GRF file on my MiniTiouner (self-inflicted), so NO VIDEO. Finally, was able to identify and replace the corrupted MiniTioune file with assistance from Jean-Pierre F6DZP.

All is well now with my Portsdown set-up using ANALOCAM source.
