Resolution

Post by G6MNJ » Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:06 pm

I am a big fan of the Portsdown transmitter however whilst we can change symbol rate, fec etc there seems no provision for the resolution.

I guess the testcard jpg is set at a given resolution so that determines that, but what about the USB video capture device or Pi Cam how is their resolution decided and can it be altered?

Thanks

Hi Paul

The resolution options are selected from the "Format" button on Menu 1.

The full list includes :
  • 4:3 which is usually 720x576
  • 16:9 which is usually something like 1024x576
  • 720p which is 1280x720
  • 1080p which is 1920x1080
However, only the lower resolution modes are available for most sources. Webcams in particular tend to limit availble resolutions, so I have chosen the closest available that gives reasonable results. The RPi cannot handle the throughput of the higher resolutions from most sources.

I could spend weeks documenting all this, but the best thing to do is try it and see what works.

And then update the wiki so we can all learn!
