Possible Easycap solution for Portsdown with Pluto?

Hi folks,

A quiet 12hr night shift at work led to obscure thinking about the lack of available Fushicai USBTV007 Easycap dongles. When I built my original Filter Modulator based Portsdown I had a strange issue which Dave G8GKQ may remember. Everything worked fine except MPEG encoding using composite in where I was getting a circular constellation. It turned out that my Easycap was not the USBTV007 chipset but was STK1170 instead, a change to the Fushicai solved the problem. Sorry for being long winded but I thought a background may be useful. Anyway, as my current Portsdown 4 build is Pluto based and doesn't support MPEG I gave the old STK1170 device a try. Although current testing is only across the sitting room it's working fine on all settings I've tried so far. If MPEG support is ever added for the Pluto there may be issues but if I have to buy a different device then, so be it, for now I have composite again.

I have found that various usb video in devices work in various modes and with or without other devices plugged into the Portsdown BUT audio does not seem to work with them or works from usb audio and is well out of sync. I don't expect any of these to work, I just experiment. So did the audio work with the old STK1170 device?

Hi Martin,

Slaps forehead! I was so focused on video that I hadn't checked the audio. Video works fine but it was using C920 audio (auto setting), switching to Easycap audio the Pluto doesn't go into transmit. Ahhh well, back to the drawing board.
