Hi Andy,
I have the same problem on the Portsdown 4 until I realize that this was a matter of current getting to the camera. Once attached to an RPI safe powered hub with a good PSU the problem went away.
My C920 is fed directly from a USB3 port on the Pi which in turn is fed into the GPIO from a 5.1V 5A PSU. The issue only occurs in the same modes as found by Stephane and confirmed by Dave so I can't imagine that power is the issue. However, the fact the camera shuts down may be a clue to identifying the problem, hence my post.

It's interesting that it has always worked before. However I recall I did try the Jetson Nano test version. It is now working but has lost all my band settings, even restoring from /boot. Luckily I didn't have many settings to lose.
