Hi Dave,

Its me again and having received the BATC programmed card with LCD connected to PI3.

I think this is not the latest version by its operation. As a side, on power up the LCD keys don't respond but if I go into Console mode and then menu selection to return to LCD mode

the keys are responsive. Guess a power-up cols start and warm start affect.

Anyway back to my main issue. With WiFi set and assumed ON as it stated configured and working on set up. Tried to update the software.

Got the same error as before wget unable to resolve host address 'raw.githubuser content.com'

I know another PI3 WiFi works from same location to my Hub.

Today I tried going back to repeat without the LCD only console mode. Using the shutdown menu I went to command prompt.

Using the wget request to install.sh file command it resolved the github address so better but kept timing out and retrying.

I then tried your suggested command from another post:-

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Briti ... ersion.txt

Appears to resolve the gitHub IP but keeps on trying with following error.

failed: Connection timed out.
Retrying.

Any thoughts and it would be nice to know if the WiFi is ON or OFF.
When does the WiFI get switched on as there is an OFF command as one message indicates WiFi switched off on a reboot.

Also slight pain is every reboot causes a new IP address on PI is it not possible to configure a static IP address for the Pi?
Save a lot of rescanning every reboot whilst playing around.

Regards,
Bill

Hi Bill

Your card went in the post on 21 February and had the latest version (issued 2 days before) loaded at the time. I have since issued a new release, but none of the new features are in the areas that you discuss.

You can set your card to start the touchscreen at power-up from the System Setup Menu, Autostart. Then use the arrows and space bar to select "Display Boot".

You say that "Using the wget request to install.sh file command it resolved the github address". This means that your WiFi must be connected, so that is unlikely to be the problem. The WiFi is switched on by default during boot-up (before login). You can change this so that it is not switched on by selecting System Setup, WiFi Off, but you won't want to do this.

The most likely cause of your issue is your ISP. Do you have BT or Virgin Media? They sometimes block access to GitHub. Try accessing https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Briti ... install.sh on other computers in your house. You should get the text of the installation file if there is no problem with your ISP.

The new IP address each time you reboot is most likely to be a problem with the configuration of your router, not the Raspberry Pi. Since I solved a minor issue 2 months ago, all other users have reported that their Raspberry Pi keeps the same IP address, even if the SD Card is changed (it's allocated to the MAC addresses of the network adaptor in the Raspberry Pi, so you have 2 possible addresses, one for the wired network and one for wireless). What is the make and model number of your router?

Sounds like your Raspberry Pi is working as intended; let me know the answers to the other questions and we'll try to work out the next steps to get you on the air.

Thanks for quick reply Dave.
It does seem to be a similar problem that meant I could not build the software myself.
At that time I set up my XP laptop WiFi and could access Github directly and did copy the latest install.sh file to my computer manually.
I have installed on another Pi3 QSSTV and Flidigi the latter used a script to access the source files from I believe GitHub.
Therefore I know the GitHub connection is obtainable from PC several computers.
I am using a BT Hub 4 and previously looked at the settings to see if there was anything obvious. There was no protection or Smart Set up turned on. The latter is set up for a streaming service which I occasionally use and I also made sure the last test perform I was the only person using the Hub.
Having spent a bit of time over the last few evenings as before I must be missing something.

Yes I had it set up with Display_Boot but wanted to eliminate noise from the LCD as desperation crept in last night, but have done the last tests with LCD back connected this morning and found that going back to linx command line the GitHub address was now resolved but timed out.

Not much else I can add but noted the Hub providing IP address.

Thanks Bill.

Hi Bill

I'm not sure that you need to connect to GitHub at the moment. Unless you want to change the buttons on the LCD? There's nothing else of note in the new release.

This is what I get when I try to upgrade:

Code: Select all

--2017-03-10 21:08:00-- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BritishAmateurTelevisionClub/rpidatv/master/scripts/latest_version.txt
Resolving raw.githubusercontent.com (raw.githubusercontent.com)... 151.101.16.133
Connecting to raw.githubusercontent.com (raw.githubusercontent.com)|151.101.16.133|:443... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 10 [text/plain]
Saving to: ‘latest_version.txt’

latest_version.txt                      100%[==============================================================================>]      10  --.-KB/s   in 0s

2017-03-10 21:08:01 (2.86 MB/s) - ‘latest_version.txt’ saved [10/10]

The installed version 201703060 is the latest available

Do you want to force an upgrade now? (y/n)
Last question. What IP address do you get resolved for GitHub?

Hi Dave,

The address resolved to 151.101.16.133 consistently and is exactly as in your attached text.

But checked it this morning again.

Quite right I wasn't looking to upgrade but wanted to prove I am able to do it in the future before I start building all the other bits.

Having had the problems with the build software from the image and install.sh command.

I will look at my Hub setting again tomorrow.

Bill

Hi Dave,

Just thought I would update you on my testing.

I connected my Digtial Pi to HDMI screen and mini keyboard.
Issued wget install command and instantly resolved/connected/downloaded file.
Replaced Pi with Portsdown one and repeated the test with same success.
Proved that WiFi Rounter and Pi hardware are all OK as we expected.

Replaced HDMI and keyboard with LCD display and LAN connection.
Replaced Digitia memory card with BATC card.

Repeated test on bothe Pis with same result, it takes several seconds to resolve path.
Then a further several seconds before the Connection line displayed.
Followed by a long delay before link times out and starts a retry.

This leads me to beleive the issue is with the image and note I power down by turning off the power currently.
Although have read some issues with corrupted memory cards from this method but I have not ever seen that happen.

Will start to assemble the boards having now got the components.

Regards,
Bill.
