PortsdownTx - shop update

Post by g8gtz » Fri Feb 10, 2017 8:57 pm

Less than a week after ordering them from China, the next batch of Filter modulator card blank PCBs are available in the BATC shop!

Also the blank PCB to build the custom designed GPIO breakout board for the Portsdown transmitter is available.

This is the preferred alternative to the Willow components GPIO breakout card and provides easy to use connections to all the modules used in the Portsdown transmitter - it just requires either sockets or screw terminals to be solder on to the board. Alternative wire connections can be soldered directly to the PCB.

For full details see https://wiki.batc.tv/Portsdown_hardware ... ender_Card

Orders placed before noon on Monday will be posted first class on Monday afternoon - I'd better go and buy some more stamps and envelopes!

BTW - after a lot of research and time wasting we are about to place the order for the assembled filter modulator boards with a UK assembly house. Expected delivery is about 3 weeks.

Enjoy

The assembled boards will be about 3 weeks and I'll post on the forum when they arrive - and before anyone asks, the shop software cannot take back orders or reserve stock....

An update on the Portsdown assembled Filter modulator boards - we placed an order last Monday (13th Feb) for 50 off boards to be made by Spinnaker electronics in Portsmouth - right under Portsdown Hill :D

The BATC shop price for the board is estimated to be around £115 including P+P which compares favourably with self build at about £92.

They have quoted 2 weeks for PCB manufacture and 2 weeks assembly but we are hopeful they will improve on that, however the boards will have to be tested by BATC volunteers before dispatch (any volunteers, please contact me directly).

And a quick reminder that before anyone asks, the current shop software cannot take back orders or reserve stock....

The auto switched multi band Local Oscillator filter board is now in stock - https://batc.org.uk/shop/portsdowntc

See https://wiki.batc.tv/LO_filters for more details including parts list, schematics and performance specs.

The filter makes a significant difference to the transmitter performance and we recommend everyone should include one in the system. We do realise that the PCB contains some small surface mount parts and we are looking at the possibility of getting some assembled boards. In the meantime, take a look at Colin's excellent video and give it a go or build one of the simple single band filters also on the wiki page.

Update on other Portsdown items:

We are about to order 25 off version 2 Filter modulator blank PCBs - please note this are a slightly revised design to improve spectral performance - we will be publishing the mods and recommend anyone building a version so make the small number of component changes.

We are also about to order more GPIO breakout boards and we are about to order the first batch of the band decoder PCBs - as seen on the KLB show on the 26th February.

All these blank boards are expected to be in the shop by the end of next week.

No news yet on progress on the 50 assembled filter modulator boards but they will need to be tested, modified and then tested again by the BATC team before release and so we anticipate they will not be available before the middle / end of next week.

Keen to improve my Portsdown spectrum; I wonder are the new component details available yet?

Thanks

Hi Steve,

Should appear on the wiki this weekend - not major stuff just add a couple of capacitors and change a couple of resistors. We'll post on the forum when on the wiki.

Bad news is the assembled boards will have to be tested (to check they were built correctly), modified and then tested again - this will add a few days delay, current forecast is 2.5 weeks before I bombard the Post Office again.
