Storm Damage - AKA - My Dish is Down...

Post by Nick » Sun Dec 08, 2019 10:32 am

In the early hours of the morning (around 01:00Hrs) there was a loud bang from outside - it was my 1.8Mtr dish hitting the ground - managed to tie it down by torchlight. Luckily it never took off or Fylingdales which is a few miles away would be tracking a UFO....

On inspection this morning it was apparent that the rear strut had detached itself from the base - it seems like the welding on the base is not up to much at all. Somewhat crumpled one or two of the segments where they hit the ground as well.

Looks like it may be salvageable if the panels can be beaten back into shape so a trip to Screwfix for a welder is on the cards - hope my welding ability is still OK as its nearly 50 years when I last did it as an apprentice.

If anyone else has one of these dishes check the rear strut weld as it has a lot of stress on it and is also on a joint on the base. I have some ideas on how to improve this rear fixing - if my welding holds up.

When the rain stops must go and retrieve the amplifier.
