Read your license!

In the UK we are allowed 400watts in to the antennae with no mention of erp....

Fair comment Noel!

But anything much over 100 watts into a decent size dish is going to overload Oscars front end!

The point of these high power amplifiers is not to run them at their full output but to back them off and transmit a cleaner signal.
That device has -33 dB shoulders at 50 watts output with a bias current of 1A according to the presentation given last year at hamradio by DH2VA.

We are legally allowed to transmit 400 watts so I think I'm ok with this one!
I have had the first quote for the pairs of \PCB's for the 250 watt power amplifier now and I have more quotes on the way. The first quote would work out at about £40.00 (GBP) per pair of boards including packing and postage.

Would anybody be interested? email me at thebigclunk@virginmedia.com. for this price I need 20 prospective purchasers as the quote is for 20 sets.Lets see how much interest there is!
I am up to 6 orders already but I can always increase the batch to get the price down a bit

The amplifier easily gives me over 250 watts max power at about 17dB gain

the NXP RFEP24-300 sells for 1400 euros so I'll give that a miss as the Ampleon module is £213 +vat I have ordered an ampleon module to see if it is going to be OK

Digikey stock due in two days. RFMW have them but you have to request a delivery quote.

This is for the module.

I hope you guys have better luck than I did. I put 100 watts of QPSK through the one I bought and one of the ceramic chip capacitors on the drain supply vaporised. The device is still OK but I am not sure what went wrong. Transmitting CW was fine it was the QPSK that broke it.

I was monitoring the output on a spectrum analyser, the device was terminated in a 50 ohm load and it was being driven by an Agilent signal generator.
There was no obvious spurious oscillation.

Just be careful

using the correct caps in the right positions on the pcb is very important - I added some extra 270pF ATC to the supply pads and changed the electrolytics for ceramic 10uF 100v
