Octagon OQSLG current consumption ?
Octagon OQSLG current consumption ?
Hi,
just bought an Octagon OQSLG 4 output LNB and have modified it for a 25MHz ext reference.
It is drawing 140mA at 15V supply - I have it in my head that it only drew 70mA before I modified it - should have written it down....
Seems to work fine though, but was just wondering if anyone knows how much they should draw.
Not much info on the Octagon website or elsewhere.
Regards Tim

Re: Octagon OQSLG current consumption ?
Tim,
I don't have that particular model, but 140mA is about what my other LNB's draw, so I don't think you've created a problem.

Re: Octagon OQSLG current consumption ?
I have one of these. Did you do the permanent V and H modification? In that case you have two parts running so it is about right. If not, it may be oscillating. That can destroy the front end device, it did with the first one I modified. The second is, so far, performing well.

Re: Octagon OQSLG current consumption ?
Hi Mike,
I only did the external freq ref mod - mainly for narrow band and interestingly I can detect no degradation of the phase noise.
I noticed once I increase the supply voltage above 15.2V the current jumps up by 20mA to 150mA - I expect because its switched polarisation.
That said I'm concerned about the current draw as I suspect it may have doubled ! Hence my question about current.
I may have to install it on the dish and see how it performs - but have a sneaking suspicion I may ave damaged it - doh !

Re: Octagon OQSLG current consumption ?
I've just checked my unmodified Octagon OQSLG 4 output LNB and it is drawing 132ma @12v , so I think you are ok.

Thanks Allan - phew, strange what tricks memory and old age can play
mine also draws 130mA at 12V

Hi Allan,
yes that was the mod which I followed and it seems to work very nicely - just need to make a 25MHz duplexer to send the ref up the lnb cable.
