SUP-2400 + 60cm dish in the UK

Post by G1EUZ » Fri Feb 22, 2019 10:39 am

Hi,

My name is Mick and i have recently joined BATC and I am enjoying the fun and excitement over QO100.

I have already received NB with LNB only and RTL-SDR and can't wait for the LimeSDR Mini to turn up. I do quite a bit of linux stuff already and want to improve the SDR Rx'ver. I appreciate it is sold here only as part of the Portsdown Tx'er.

I would like a little advice if possible?

What results am I likely to get in the UK for beacon Rx with a 60cm dish, PLL LNB, sup-2400 and a commercial european HD receiver? I already have the SUP-2400 and use a motorised 60cm dish.

I appreciate the SUP-2400 will only allow me to receive the Es'hail-2 beacon and not the RB signals, my MiniTiouner is on its way.

Dave, if you're reading this its a quite few years since our paths last crossed. I'm looking forward to my first foray into Amateur TV.

kind regards

Mick

Hi Mick

A 60cm dish is probably just too small to get the beacon, but if your LNB is very good and the SUP-2400 does not introduce any extra noise (it shouldn't), you might just be lucky.

So worth a try, but don't be too disappointed if you don't get a decode.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply, I will give it a go once the MiniTiouner is built, rather than try the SUP-2400.The kit arrived safe and sound yesterday.

I spent most of the weekend listening to NB with the LimeSDR Mini (from the BATC Shop) and an unmodified Octagon LNB. Its very stable on receive and I am using CubicSDR on Linux Mint 19.

I must put a NB Tx'er together now.

Thanks again for the feedback on the SUP-2400.

Mick
