GB3ET On Air in ** Beacon Mode **

Post by G8DKC » Tue Oct 08, 2019 6:02 pm

GB3ET was switched on at 13:00 today, 08-10-19.

Located approximately 6 miles NW of Banbury near the village of Edgehill. 216 Mtrs ASL, Locator IO92GC.

Running in Beacon Mode Only, 24hrs a day for a soak test. TX 1.322Ghz Digital, RX 1249 Analog and Digital.
4M/S 1/2 FEC 2 channels, CH1 Testcards and A/V Repeater, Std Pids. CH2 Engineering, Pid,s A 512, V 513, PCR 512.

We were hoping to try 2M/S but running two channels too much data, perhaps we can have a go later...
As there's no broadband, the only control is over mobile internet, not so friendly toward remote control apps, more on that later.

Control equipment and recievers ready to go after TX tests, and R & R, other recievers may come online...

Off air streaming to Batc streamer coming on line soon.

All reports welcome.

Just got back from microwave update in dallas and took a quick look. Found it instantly. MER of 3.9dB using a 23 element Tonna located in my loft (pointing East) with my G4DDK VLNA. Distance = 57km

I found a more accurate locator for Edge Hill that explains why I don't see it, it's screened to the South as the ground rises to 270m - assuming the location is correct. That adds 20dB loss.

Thanks to Dave and Mike for reports.

The West appears clear to the Malverns (thanks to your 57Km Dave) and into Wales.
It looks like North, North West, West & North East are good as Edgehill drops off fast in those directions, 60m drop in no distance at all.
The South and South East side, it is some distance before the same occurs.
A quick look shows a ridge near Great Tew could be a problem going south to you Mike, amongst others!

I've done a quick check up to about 12 miles with handheld sat rx preamp and WA5VJB PCB Log Periodic with good results.

We hope to try 2M/S soon, I have found a way to watch CH 2 Engineering via the mobile internet, and hope to stream when needed.
If it all works then we will stay on 2M/S, watch out for switch over notice for tests.

John will be pleased that his self build alford slot is performing well.

Jobs to do....

Clear all trees from Edgehill to the south :o But there has been talk of higher mast, but not yet.....

Having found an accurate location of the repeater and done another path loss calculation based on this I am now puzzled why I don't receive it. Would it be possible to post details like power and antenna gain? Are there trees in the way perhaps? If so it might get much better when raised to full height. I don't know the power or height but here is an initial coverage prediction based on 1kW EIRP and 10m mast.

GB3ET now on 2M/S.

After re-routing CH2 Engineering through the mobile internet connection.
And it was also necessary to remove the 2nd channel board from the DTX-1.
2M/s now up and running, hopefully a permanent feature of GB3ET.

Soak testing revealed a faulty PSU fan, Ok in the past on normal intermittent service...

Connecting up the receivers as soon as posible.

That could explain why my 4MS symbol receiver has not found a signal today! Now it sees the 2Ms signal
