CQ-TV 276 is available for download

Post by g8gtz » Fri Jul 01, 2022 9:23 pm

The electronic copy of CQ-TV 276 is available for download for members on the BATC website at https://batc.org.uk/cq-tv/cq-tv-download/ . You will need to be logged in to the website to access this page. If you have not already visited the website, you will need to do a password reset before you can access the CQ-TV page - simply follow the instructions on this page https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Resetting_your_password

In this issue Gareth G4XAT describes a DIY pan and tilt head for the yellow aluminium surveyors tripods which are available on well known auction sites. There's an article by Brian G4EWJ looking at potential future receiver architectures.

There's also news of the agenda for the club's GM to be held on August 7th during CAT22 and a summary of the club accounts for 2021.

The printed version of CQ-TV 276, in full colour on high-quality gloss paper, is currently at the printers and will be dispatched next week to those members who subscribe to the printed magazine. If you currently don't receive the printed version, why not consider upgrading when you next renew your subscription?

Don't forget the Thursday evening BATC net on Oscar-100 – more details on the forum. Please join us if you have transmit capability and if not you can watch all the action on the BATC streamer: https://batc.org.uk/live/oscar100net

We would really like more feedback on CQ-TV!

Do you read it from cover to cover? Are the articles relevant to you or do you just file it away and never read it? Either way, please let us know what you think by posting on the BATC forum.

Finally don't forget CAT22 and our General Meeting which will be held at Coventry Air Museum on Sunday August 7th - we look forward to seeing you all there!

For the article on page 14, "What to go for, Yagi or dish?" the following link could also be very interesting with respect to boom correction: http://dg7ybn.de/BC_numbers/BC.htm

Enjoy!

Small suggestion in relation with the article of Dave "Microphone amplifiers and audio level setting for DATV " on page 18.

What could be worthwile is to have a look at MAX9814. It is a low noise microphone amplifier as wel as compressor.
They can be bought rather cheap on a PCB, coming with a microphone and several settings like gain, attack and delay time and ratio.

The microphone could be removed (as I did in my project that has nothing to to with ATV: https://youtu.be/jP5sGiyjWzc ).
However, I can imagine that a small 3D printed enclosure makes it a great functioning microphone unit for (D)ATV.

(Today seen on AliExpress for €2,23 including shipment)

Just thoughts,

Since the RP2040 article was written, two new boards have become available:

W5500_EVB_Pico https://docs.wiznet.io/Product/iEtherne ... 0-evb-pico
The W5500 Ethernet chip seems to have more facilities than the W5100S, although I haven't tried it yet.

Raspberry Pi Pico W https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/raspbe ... -platform/
A Pico with 2.4GHz WiFi.
